The intimate 2-person setup means you're not fighting for rod space or waiting your turn – it's your time on the water. Trey provides all the tackle, bait, and gear you need, plus he's constantly adjusting techniques based on what's working. Expect to hit multiple spots during your 4 hours, from shallow grass flats where reds cruise the edges to deeper channels where trout suspend. The boat stays close to shore in the protected inshore waters, so even folks prone to seasickness usually do just fine.
Inshore fishing around Tybee Island is all about reading the water and adapting your approach. Captain Trey runs a variety of techniques depending on conditions – live bait fishing with shrimp and mud minnows, artificial lures like soft plastics and spoons, and sometimes sight fishing when the water's clear enough to spot cruising reds. You'll fish everything from 2-foot grass flats to 8-foot channels, learning to work different structure like oyster bars, creek mouths, and sand holes. Trey's good about explaining what you're doing and why, so you pick up local knowledge along the way. The gear is quality stuff – medium-action spinning rods that can handle everything from 14-inch trout to bull reds, with drags set just right for the fight ahead.
"Captain Trey exceeded all expectations. He not only put us on the fish—reds and speckled trout—but also guided us with the skill and care of an exceptional captain. This trip was especially meaningful because my father, who has been battling lung cancer, fulfilled a bucket list goal of catching speckled trout, thanks to Captain Trey's expertise and compassion. The extra effort and attention he provided went far beyond what I had hoped for, creating a truly unforgettable morning with my dad. I can't recommend him enough to anyone looking for a top-tier fishing experience and will definitely check his availability for our next trip. Huge thanks to Captain Trey!" - Leah
"The weather looked questionable on the morning of our charter, but Captain Trey stayed in close contact leading up to the trip to discuss all our options. Despite the conditions, we decided to head out with my wife and 5-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, the wind and rain returned, making things uncomfortable on the water. Without hesitation, Captain Trey graciously took us back to the dock to drop them off, ensuring their comfort, and offered to continue the charter with just me. Even in tough conditions, Captain Trey's expertise shined as he put us on fish, and soon we were landing keeper-sized trout and redfish." - Steve
"Our overall experience was fantastic; he showed great flexibility and a strong desire to guide us to the best fishing spots. His profound knowledge of both fishing and the water's landscape provided us with beautiful scenery and unforgettable memories. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone in the Tybee Island area." - Christy
Redfish are the stars of the show around Tybee Island, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers range from 18-inch "rat reds" perfect for the dinner table up to 40-plus-inch bulls that'll test your drag system. Peak season runs from late spring through early fall, when schools of slot-sized reds cruise the grass flats looking for blue crabs and shrimp. What makes reds so special is their fight – they don't jump like a tarpon, but they make long, powerful runs that'll have your arms burning. Plus, they're not overly spooky, so beginners can usually hook up once Trey puts you in the right spot.
Speckled trout are the thinking angler's fish, requiring finesse and patience to dial in. These beauties average 14-18 inches around Tybee, with occasional 5-pound "gator trout" showing up to make your day. They school up in deeper channels during hot summer months and move shallow during cooler periods. Specks are structure-oriented fish, loving oyster bars, creek bends, and drop-offs where they can ambush baitfish. Their bite is often subtle – just a tick on the line – but once hooked, they jump and shake their heads like crazy trying to throw the hook.
Summer flounder round out this coastal slam, and they're pure table fare gold. These flatfish range from 14-inch "throwbacks" up to doormat-sized 8-pounders that'll feed the whole family. Flounder are ambush predators that bury in sandy bottoms near structure, waiting for unsuspecting baitfish to swim by. The key is working your bait slowly along the bottom, feeling for that distinctive flounder bite – it feels like you've snagged bottom, then the bottom starts swimming away. Peak flounder action typically runs from late spring through early fall, with the biggest fish moving through in late summer during their spawn migration.

Even in tough conditions, Captain Trey’s expertise shined as he put us on fish, and soon we were landing keeper-sized trout and redfish. Though he offered to clean the catch, I chose to release them for someone else to enjoy down the line—hopefully when they’ve grown even bigger. It was an incredible experience, and I can’t thank Captain Trey enough for his hospitality and care for my family. I highly recommend him and will definitely book with him again on our next visit!

Redfish are the bread and butter of inshore fishing around Tybee - bronze-colored bruisers with that distinctive black spot near their tail. They love super shallow water from 1-4 feet deep around oyster bars, grass flats, and creek mouths. You'll see fish from 18-30 inches regularly, with the bigger bull reds offshore pushing 40+ inches and serious weight. Spring and fall are peak times when they're feeding actively in the shallows. What makes reds special is that bone-jarring strike followed by a bulldogging fight that'll test your drag. They're also great table fare when kept in the slot. The real thrill is sight fishing - watching their backs cruise the flats with tails waving above the surface. My go-to trick is a gold spoon worked slowly over grass beds. Keep it just above the vegetation and when you see that flash, set the hook hard.

Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout as we call them locally, are beautiful silver fish covered in dark spots that love our grass flats and oyster bars. They average 14-24 inches and put up a solid fight with some nice head shakes. You'll find them in 2-8 feet of water around structure, especially during moving tides. Spring through fall are your best bets, with early morning and evening producing the most action. What guests love about trout fishing is the variety - they'll hit topwater plugs, soft plastics, and live shrimp with equal enthusiasm. They're also excellent eating with tender, white meat that's perfect for the dinner table. The key thing to remember is not to horse them in - their mouths are soft and they'll throw the hook if you get too aggressive. Work that drag smooth and steady, and you'll boat more fish.

Summer Flounder are fascinating flatfish that live on sandy bottoms with both eyes on their left side - they're basically nature's master of disguise. These "chameleons of the sea" change colors to match the seafloor perfectly. Around here, you'll find them in 10-30 feet of water near structure and drop-offs. They typically run 15-20 inches, though we see some real doormat-sized fish pushing 4-5 pounds. Fall months from September through November are prime time when they're feeding heavily before moving offshore. What makes them special is that sneaky ambush strike - one second your bait's sitting there, next second your rod's bent over. They're also fantastic table fare with sweet, flaky white meat. Pro tip: use a bucktail jig tipped with squid strips and work it slow along the bottom - flounder don't like to chase fast-moving baits.
